Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Effingham County voters decided against a tax increase that the Effingham School District said would help with improving school facilities and update security and safety at district schools.
The Effingham Unit #40 Schools Facebook page made an announcement this morning after the results were finalized.
“We regret to announce that the Effingham County Schools Facilities Sales Tax proposal did not pass. As we move forward, our goal will be to continue to maintain our facilities to the best of our ability while limiting any negative impact on students as much as possible. We thank our Unit 40 residents for going to the polls to vote.”
There was one other county question on the ballot regarding whether tax dollars should be used for illegal immigrants. The measure was voted down 90% to 10%.
