Mattoon, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Lake Land College will host a dedication ceremony for the newest edition to campus: two peace poles recently installed in Podesta Park. The dedication ceremony will be held Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. in the Luther Student Center theater.
Acquired in collaboration with Mattoon Rotary, the peace poles serve as a symbol of worldwide unity, with the phrase, “May Peace Prevail on Earth,” currently inscribed in 19 languages across the two poles. The dedication ceremony will include addresses from Lake Land College President Josh Bullock and Rotary representatives Mike Martin, Rotary District Governor, and Noah A.J. Olson, Mattoon Rotary President. The event will also feature the premiere of a video of the newly-installed peace poles and the reading of an original poem from international Lake Land student Tanatswa Mutamira.
The dedication ceremony will also include the first reading of Lake Land’s Land Acknowledgement to recognize the native tribes who first inhabited the region.
Media are invited to attend and cover the dedication ceremony. Please contact Communications Engagement Coordinator Aaron Wendt at 217-234-5408 or awendt2@lakelandcollege.edu if you plan to attend.
