Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Effingham City Council members heard details on the fiscal year financials.
Dillon Dom was the auditor, and he explained by phone the details of the fiscal year audit. He said overall the report showed the financials to be in good shape, noting positive growth over the last few years. They followed up the discussion by approving the levy for the new year.
The Council also heard about the tax levy, hearing that it has increased by over 3% from last year.
Council members voted to terminate the Outer Belt West Tax Increment Finance District, which began in 2000. The Council also awarded a contract to Heuerman Bros and 3 Sisters Logistics for a total of $62, 334 for rock and sand deliveries for use by the Public Works Department.
City Planner Greg Koester also announced for discussion that wind energy systems that break down more easily should be replaced with more static solar initiatives. Koester said the wind energy systems could be brought back with more details and/or improvements made.
Visit Effingham Tourism Director Jodi Thoele also asked for road closures for Hometown Christmas coming up on December 7th. It will officially be approved when it is brought back at the next meeting on the agenda.
City Engineer Luke Thoele also gave information on the Merchant Street Reconstruction, stating that there are some changes to the contract, namely more money added to the contract in the amount of $70k. He did say, however, that it will still be within the allotted budget for the project.
