Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- On Saturday, December 28th, 2024 at approximately 6:30am, the Effingham City Police Department and the Illinois State Police responded to a crash near the intersection of S. Banker St. and Jaycee Avenue on the south side of Effingham. Upon arrival, they discovered two vehicles crashed head-on just south of Jaycee Ave.
A 2024 GMC pick-up truck towing a camper driven by Scott Mosher, age 64 of Effingham, Illinois was northbound on S. Banker St. in Effingham. Kathy Mosher (his wife), age 61, was a passenger in the pick-up truck. The second vehicle, a 1999 Dodge Durango was driven by James Ashley, age 41 of Effingham, Illinois. James Ashley was the lone occupant and was southbound on Banker St. and for some unknown reason he crossed the yellow solid center lane markings and struck the Mosher vehicle head-on.
James Ashley was transported to HSHS St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham and was pronounced deceased at 7:15 am on December 28th. Scott and Kathy Mosher were also transported to HSHS with non-life-threatening injuries.
An autopsy was conducted at 8:30 am today (Sunday, December 29) at the McLean County Coroner’s Office in Bloomington, Illinois.
Preliminary investigation revealed some medical issues; however, the FINAL and official autopsy and toxicology report will not be available for at least 30 days.
The investigation is continuing by the Effingham County Coroner’s office and the Illinois State Police.
Agencies on scene that assisted in the incident were: Effingham City Police, Effingham Fire Department, Illinois State Police and the Traffic Reconstruction Unit, Rural Med EMS and the Effingham County Coroner’s Office.
