Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- On January 2, 2025, at 11:19 PM, the Effingham Fire Department responded to a reported chimney fire at 809 N Pembroke Street. Upon arrival, crews observed heavy smoke coming from the chimney and roofline. The fire had spread into the attic of the residence.
Firefighters promptly initiated an interior attack. Fortunately, upon the fire department’s arrival, all occupants were safely outside the home, and everyone was accounted for.
The fire was brought under control within approximately 15 minutes. Crews remained on scene until 1:20 AM, conducting extensive overhaul and investigating the incident.
The fire has been determined to be accidental, with estimated damages totaling approximately $75,000.
This response was a coordinated effort involving several agencies, including Effingham City Dispatch, Effingham Police Department, Rural Med EMS, and fire departments from Teutopolis, Shumway, Altamont, and Dieterich.
