Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Effingham County Emergency Management Agency:
A winter storm is forecast to impact our area this Sunday. The possibility of significant snow and / or freezing rain and sleet may result in icy roads, and potential power outages. The actions below may help you stay safe during this winter event.
Home Actions:

- Seek Support: If power loss is likely, arrange to stay with family, friends, or at a medical facility equipped for your needs.
- Emergency Plan: Keep emergency contact numbers and medical supplies easily accessible.
Frostbite Prevention & Action:
- Dress in warm, layered clothing and cover exposed skin.
- Avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.
- If you notice frostbite symptoms—numbness, discoloration, or hard skin—seek medical help immediately.
Extreme Cold Exposure Symptoms:
- Frostbite is a severe reaction to cold exposure of the skin and can occur in as little as 30 minutes. The symptoms of frostbite are numbness and white or pale appearance to the skin. Frostbite can permanently damage the skin.
