Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham City Council met for their regular meeting on Tuesday and approved a few different items, including ordinance for Flood Damage Prevention and Control. This approval comes after IDNR approved it prior.
The Council also heard from City Engineer Luke Thoele about annual pavement patching work. He said they received 6 bids and accepted F & C Concrete’s bid. It came in at just under $475k. The contract will mainly focus on Wabash Avenue. Thoele also advised the Council that the sidewalk work on South Banker will cost slightly more than originally thought due to one section needing completely redone.
Thoele also said he is looking to “swing for the fences” and apply for the RAISE Grant, which is a competitive grant nationally. Thoele said the City is applying for the grant to help fund the Ford Avenue Extension, including a roundabout at the intersection of Rickelman and Ford. The grant would fund $16.3M, with the City paying over $3M toward the project.
City Planner Greg Koester also reminded the Council and public that the Effingham 2050 Comprehensive Plan Focus Group meeting will be this Thursday at 5:30pm in City Hall. Koester said everyone is invited to join and participate in the meeting.
Also announced at the meeting was that the City will be picking up Christmas trees next week due to the winter storm.
Commissioner Hank Stephens was absent from Tuesday’s meeting.
