Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The FDA is banning red dye number three in food, drinks and ingested drugs. The move comes more than 30 years after scientists found links between the dye, which is made from petroleum, and cancer in animals.
Red dye number three is added to foods and beverages to give them an appealing cherry color. Manufacturers that use the additive are being given two years to remove it and reformulate their products.
Red dye number three has been banned in California since October 2023.
