Chicago, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Trump administration is taking legal action against Illinois, the City of Chicago, and Cook County regarding their sanctuary status. The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit yesterday in Chicago federal court claiming local and state laws violate federal immigration law.
The DOJ argues that sanctuary policies are designed to interfere with the Federal Government’s enforcement of federal immigration law in violation of the Constitution. Mayor Brandon Johnson released a statement saying Chicago will remain a welcoming city. Also named in the lawsuit are the Chicago Police Superintendent and the Cook County Sheriff.
