Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The FedEx Express Shipping Station on Wabash Avenue is set to close soon, according to a FedEx spokesperson for the Effingham Facility.
The closure is not expected to happen soon, but employees have already been made aware of the news. It will not impact the larger freight facility located close to the interstate. No loss of service is expected, and workers will likely be reassigned or offered severance.
A spokesperson for FedEx released a statement on the closure:
“FedEx regularly evaluates its network and makes adjustments to align with the evolving needs of the business. We recently informed employees that FedEx facilities in Effingham, Springfield, and Urbana will close later this year, and certain team members will be offered opportunities at other FedEx locations. Decisions of this nature are the result of much thought and consideration for maintaining the high level of service expected from our customers and other needs of our business. Affected team members were notified several months before any changes occur and receive assistance with finding other employment opportunities within the company, including additional support options like relocation assistance or severance where applicable.”
The date of the closure is not finalized at this time, but more information is expected in the future. We will keep you updated as more information is released.
