Janesville, IL-(Mattoon Radio)- From the Lincoln Fire Protection District:
The Lincoln Fire Protection District was dispatched at 3:17 AM on Friday for a report of a fully involved structure fire on East Adams Street in Janesville.
Upon arrival, a two-story residence was found with heavy fire showing. Two individuals were able to escape out a first-floor window after attempting to rescue their children who were on the second floor. An immediate attack on the fire was initiated to knock down the fire. A rescue of the children was attempted but due to the advanced progression of the fire, entry and search of the structure was unsuccessful and firefighters were required to perform a defensive attack. Tragically, the two children were killed in the fire.
The Office of the State Fire Marshall was requested to investigate the fire. The American Red Cross was requested to assist the family. Crews remained on the scene until 12:30 PM.
The Lincoln Fire Protection District was assisted by Coles-Moultrie 911 (CECOM), the Coles County Sheriff’s Office, Charleston Fire Department, Hutton Fire Protection District, Ashmore Fire Department, Toledo Fire Protection District, Wabash Fire Protection District, Clearwater, Ameren Electric & Gas, the American Red Cross, and the Office of the State Fire Marshall. Holey Moley Daylight Donuts, Hubbarts Downtown Diner, Charleston McDonald’s, and Charleston Ginger Ales all provided food and drinks to first responders.
