Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Learn about the fight for workplace equity when the Effingham Public Library presents “9to5: The Story of a Movement” on demand via Zoom any time from 1 p.m. and 11:55 p.m. Friday, March 21.
The documentary highlights the beginnings of the 9to5 movement, which was established to create equity in the workplace and to fight wage discrepancy. The organization was the basis for the 1980 feature film “9 to 5,” starring Jane Fonda, Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin.
In the early 1970s, secretaries in Boston started a movement when they decided to take a stand against the work environments they believed to be humiliating, harassing and illegal. The organization eventually spread across the country and continues to advocate for women in the workplace today.
