Last Thursday afternoon Altamont senior Kylie Osteen signed her letter of intent to continue her academic and girls basketball career at Kaskaskia College.
Catching up with Kylie at her singing, on what made her decide on Kaskaskia?
“I visited one time and I just really liked the coach he was super super welcoming, all the staff there they were all so kind. Coach (Perry) Michael he really put in a bunch of effort to show up to a few of my games and really communicate with me. He’s just a really great guy, really nice and I could tell he put so much effort into me and that really felt good.”
During her time at Altamont Kylie played a couple different positions, on the 2024 Third Place Team she played in the post. This past season she was used a the ball handing point guard, a position she plans on continuing to play at the next level.
“Yeah that was a huge jump in positions but I think I’m gonna continue on the guard ball handling position, Hopefully improve my skills there get stronger and get better at that in college. I’m definitely gonna get in the gym lift some more, shoot a lot, and I’m really looking to improve my shot and be more accurate with that and then a lot of defense too!!”
Kylie was also on the 2023-24 Lady Indians squad that finished off an historic season with a third place finish at state and one of the highlights of her career.
“Honestly it’s a memory that I’ll never forget! It’ll always be a part of me and just that team it was so special, with my sister being on the team and the girls that I’ve played with since as long as I can remember. The community always so supportive and our school and my family it was just an unforgettable experience.”
Kylie played alongside her sister Peyton and what was like playing together?
“She’s always kind of been the person that I look up to, my number one supporter and she’s always been there for me whenever I needed it. She’s given me advice and just kind of always been there with me along the ride. To get to be able to do that last year, that whole experience with her made it ten times better.”
But Peyton graduated and Kylie played this season without Peyton by her side
“It was a huge adjustment, definitely something that I was not ready for. I just always loved the comfort of her being on the team and her being with me but it was alright.”
Being one of the senior leaders on the team Kylie gave some advice to future Lady Indians.
“I would just say to soak it all up because it’s gone quickly, way before you know it. I would say just give a hundred and ten percent, energy at all times, try your best and it should benefit you in the end.
