Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Ann Crooker St. Clair Chapter, National Daughters of the American Revolution, presented their first ever Excellence in Display of Patriotism Award at their March 29th meeting.
This award was designed by the chapter’s Executive Board to honor local citizens who go above and beyond in their selflessness to display Patriotism and American spirit. The winner’s story was brought to the board by one of the chapter members.
Bill Foreman is a truck driver, currently employed by Sherman Williams. He was approached by them to be the driver of the truck they were sending to help deliver for Wreaths Across America. He quickly agreed to go when asked and told the chapter he would do it again if the opportunity came up. His trip took him 8 days where he covered 3006 miles while delivering approximately 700 wreaths to seven stops in West Virginia and Ohio. His first stop was Columbia, Maine to the Wreaths Across America headquarters. Bill, a United States Army veteran, was happy to be a part of honoring veterans for their service and sacrifice. The organization likes to have veteran volunteers when at all possible.
The Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 with the mission to promote historic preservation, education, and patriotism. The chapter continues this mission today along with honoring veterans and supporting active duty military. They are a sponsorship group for Wreaths Across America which means they sell the sponsorships so others can purchase wreaths to be placed on veterans graves in National Cemeteries each December.
The chapter was honored to meet Bill and his family and present him with this well deserved award for his patriotism. Job well done, Bill!
