Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham City Council met Tuesday and approved a few different action items.
Effingham City Council members passed the new budget for the fiscal year, totaling $98.3M. They also passed the pay ranges for salaried and hourly employees.
The Council also approved an agreement with Milano & Grunloh for a bike path on the west side of Veterans Drive and the south side of Jaycee Avenue, along with a pedestrian bridge and a sidewalk on the north side of Jaycee Avenue. The cost of this project is $75k.
The Council also approved the sale of property by Banker Street to Harvest Land Holdings for $25k/acre. Harvest is looking to invest in solar for the property. The special use permit requested for a morgue to go in the old Pet Feed location was also approved. This will replace the current morgue in the hospital basement.
The City Council also:

The Council also discussed:
- A Resolution Authorizing Renewal of the City’s Group Medical and Health Insurance Agreements
- A Resolution Authorizing an Agreement with Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center for the Administration of an Employee Assistance Program
- A Resolution Granting Permission to Allow a Portion of City Streets to be Temporarily Closed for Fourth of July Fireworks
- A Resolution Granting Permission to Allow a Portion of City Streets to be Temporarily Closed for Outdoor Movie Night
- A Resolution Authorizing Acceptance of Quotes for West Jefferson Street Water Main Replacement Project
Mayor Mike Schutzbach also reminded the public of City Commissioner Merv Gillenwater’s retirement. Applicants should contact City Administrator Steve Miller if they’re interested in serving for the remainder of his term.
