Danville, IL -(Effingham Radio)- The Illinois Department of Corrections says hundreds of inmates at Danville Correctional Center have tested positive for COVID-19.
Newly released numbers indicate that 30-percent of the facility’s inmates are battling the virus. Inmate infections have gone up from 119 on December 16th to nearly 450 a week later.
IDOC says it is deploying many strategies to slow the spread of the virus, including mass testing, which went into effect a week ago. Rebecca Ginsburg from the Education Justice Project says she is concerned about the mental health impact of COVID-19 in prisons.
