Summitt Township, IL-(Effingham Radio)- A Stewardson man was injured in an accident that occurred in Summitt Township at 6:38pm on on Saturday.
According to a report from the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred on Route 33, about one quarter of a mile west of Nazarene Road.
The report states that a motorcycle ridden by 21 year old, Zackaryah Russell, of Stewardson was traveling westbound on Route 33, at a high rate of speed, behind a vehicle driven by 66 year old, Victoria Beals, of Stewardson who was also traveling westbound.
Russell’s motorcycle collided with the rear end of Beals’ vehicle and came to a rest in the eastbound ditch.
Russell sustained severe injuries and was airlifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana.
Beals and her passenger did not sustain injuries.
Russell was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Shumway Fire Department, Rural Med, and Effingham City Police.
