Springfield, IL-(Effingham Radio)- More boots on the ground for conservation.
The Illinois Department of Agriculture is hiring 40 conservation experts to work with soil and water conservation districts across the state to walk through conservation practices on a one-to-one basis with farmers in their fields.
That was Paige Buck, state public affairs specialist with the Natural Resources Conservation Service. She says there are waiting lists of farmers who are eager to get technical help in conservation efforts.
Brochures, phone calls and videos are helpful, but Buck said having experts who visit farms, providing technical assistance and answering questions, takes the process to the next level.
