Nothing ever comes easy at the St. Elmo Gymnasium.
Altamont found that out by making the short little drive over to battle it out with the SEB Eagles. The game was close for three and half quarters but Altamont would return back to town with another hard fought win, 58-47.
St. Elmo came out firing on all cylinders. Caleb Campbell got it started and Wyatt Stine came out of the gates scoring six quick points. The Eagles were flying high, leading 8-0 forcing Coach Niebrugge to call the TO.
After the time out the Indians would go on a 10-0 run themselves. Mason Robinson and Jared Hammer would make threes. Avery Jahraus would make a two pointer to give Altamont the 10-8 lead, forcing Coach Feezel to take the timeout. SEB would ultimately take the lead back 15-13 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter both teams had to navigate being in foul trouble. At one point every starter for SEB had two fouls except for Jarrett Pasley and Brady Mason had three off the bench. Campbell would be the difference maker in the quarter as he poured in nine. Adam Atwood would also pitch in with five in the quarter. As the Eagles finished off strong and led 32-27 going into the break.
Jahraus would be the difference maker for the Indians in the third quarter. As Jahraus caught fire from beyond the arc making three from long range in the quarter. Pasley not to be outdone, made a couple threes himself. Wyatt Phillips returned to the rotation on Tuesday vs Neoga but didn’t find the scoring column. On this night Wyatt would make a couple free throws to help Altamont surge ahead 42-41 by quarters end.
Altamont would continue pouring on the points in the final quarter. Dillan Elam would make a three pointer to give the Indians some cushion. Robinson would also filled it up scoring eight in the final quarter. What was working and falling in the first half for SEB, just was not there in the second half. Altamont would outscore the Eagles 31-15 in the second half. Altamont would go on to win 58-47 in a game that featured 15 lead changes and 7 ties.
Altamont improves 23-3 overall and 6-0 in the NTC. Indians with a quick turnaround as they are back in action on Saturday hosting the NTC-CIC Shootout to take on Tuscola at 7.
SEB falls to 16-10 and 2-5 in the NTC. SEB will also be there in Altamont tomorrow, as they are set to take on Sullivan at 1.
