It was a day earlier than expected but Altamont traveled to Stewardson-Strasburg on Thursday. The Indians returned home with the 20 point victory to close out the regular season. Altamont would also clinch an undefeated conference record for the first time since 1980.
The teams would both come out trading baskets and trading leads in the early going. Windsor / Stew-Stras would come out feeding off the senior night energy. The two Wittenberg’s, Austin and Jordan, came out and led the charge for the Hatchets. Austin finished with seven and Jordan added five in the opening period. Mason Robinson came out firing on all cylinders, attacking the middle of the Hatchet zone. Mason would finish with eight in the opening quarter. The first saw seven lead changes and two ties. Windsor would find themselves in front 14-12 after one quarter.
The Hatchets would have a tough time find the bottom of the basket in the next quarter. W/SS was held to just four points. Eric Kollmann got a put back from an offensive rebound to give Altamont the lead 16-14. Dylan Curry would make a tough layup at the other end to tie it up at 16. Little did the Hatchets know, that would be the last tie of the game. Robinson answered right back with a layup to put the Indians on top 18-16. Altamont would not let up the lead after that. A 7-0 run by the Indians would force coach Shane Smith to call a time out, with Altamont now in the lead 25-16. The score would end up being 25-18 at the half.
In the 3rd, Altamont would build up the lead to double digits at one point. With good quarters from Dillan Elam (7), Keinon Eirhart (6) and Kaidyn Miller (6). Austin (5) and Jordan (6) would be the only Hatchets to score in the third. Jared Hammer would end the quarter with a big exclamation point. As Altamont pushed the ball quickly up the floor, Jared splashed home a three pointer to put Altamont on top 43-29 after three.
In the final quarter Altamont would extend the lead up to 21 at one point. Avery Jahraus made a couple of threes, Wyatt Phillips would also hit one from range and Robinson would have five in the quarter. Austin and Jordan would have 18 and 16 respectively but unfortunately for the Hatchets those were the only bright spots on the night. Altamont would go on to win 62-42.
Altamont finishes with a perfect 8-0 record in the NTC, something Altamont has not done since 1980. The Indians also finish 25-4 on the regualr season. The record gets wiped clean as everyone is 0-0 now. The postseason is set to begin on Saturday in Altamont against 16 Seed Mulberry Groveat 7 P.M.
Windsor / Stew-Stras finish the regualr season with a 21-9 record and 4-4 in the NTC. The Hatchets are set to take on the 11 Seed CHBC on Saturday at 1:30 P.M. to start their postseason play.
