Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Expect high heat indices over the next couple of days.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, heat indices will reach 100 degrees or higher beginning Wednesday afternoon and will peak near 105 degrees on both Thursday and Friday.
They are also forecasting little relief in the overnights as heat indices will only fall into the upper 70s.
Listeners should take steps to stay safe during heat waves.
This includes:
- reducing, eliminating, or rescheduling strenuous outdoor activities until the coolest time of day
- wearing lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing
- minimizing direct exposure to the sun
- eating light, cool, and easy-to-digest foods
- drinking plenty of water, non-alcoholic and decaffeinated fluids
- use air conditioners or go to an air-conditioned location such as a library or mall
- take a cool bath or shower
- check on those at higher risk
Reminder, it is never safe to leave a child, disabled person, or a pet in the car during a heat wave.
