On August 16, 2023 at approximately 5:32 p.m. the Clay County Sheriff’s responded to a report of a suspicious person on Washington St. in Clay City. It was reported that the individual’s actions had alarmed and or disturbed residents in the area.
Upon the arrival of deputies in the area it was reported that the individual had left the area. Deputies continued to search the area and were able to later locate the suspect with assistance from citizens in that area. The suspect was taken into custody during the investigation at which point the deputy attempted to place the suspect in the squad. The suspect initially resisted the deputy’s actions and commands to be placed into the squad. The suspect was transported to the Clay County Jail and placed into the booking area at the jail. After being placed in the booking area the suspect began damaging property within the booking area. The suspect was then secured in a different area of the jail until he was able to be properly processed into the jail the following day.
As a result of the above incidents Michael L Morgan, 43, of Clay City, was arrested for the offenses of Disorderly Conduct, Resisting a Peace Officer, and Criminal Damage to Government Supported Property. Morgan’s bond was later set in Clay County Court in the amount $5,000 (10% to apply). Morgan is currently incarcerated in the Clay County Jail at the time of this release.
The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
