Springfield, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Illinois Secretary of State is calling out those who are responsible for bomb threats to Illinois libraries. The exact number of threats has not been released, but most, if not all, have not been credible.
Alexi Giannoulias said the bomb threats received by Illinois libraries represent a troublesome and disturbing trend that has escalated from banning books.
In June, Illinois became the first state in the country to prohibit book bans. The measure, which takes effect January 1, says public libraries must adopt the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights or their own statement prohibiting book banning to be eligible for state money.
