Montrose And Teutopolis FPD Respond To Accident In I-70 Construction Zone Wednesday

Effingham County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Teutopolis Fire Protection District Facebook page:

On Wednesday 9/27/2023 Montrose FPD with auto-aid from Teutopolis FPD was dispatched to a reported multi vehicle accident, Interstate 70 westbound at mile marker 104.5. This is within the ongoing construction zone.

C600 arrived on scene reporting 2 tractor trailer semi’s, both upright, blocking westbound traffic. Traffic at a standstill. Further investigation reveal no injuries, both drivers walking around. Firefighters discovered diesel fuel leaking from the fuel tanks of one semi. Utilizing containment pools, Firefighters were able to capture approximately 100 gallons of fuel. Haz-Mat “pigs” were also deployed and oil dry disbursed on the roadway.

Upon arrival of Heartland Towing & Recovery, the fuel from the containment pools was then pumped off in to totes prior to the semi being recovered. Firefighters assisted in debris removal from the roadway.

ISP Troop 9 investigating the cause of the accident. Firefighters cleared the scene at 14:08 hours.
