Mary Maxine Hites, age 96, of Edgewood, Illinois passed away at 7:44 a.m. Monday, January 8, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.
Funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Pagel Funeral Homes in Edgewood with a two hour visitation prior to the service. Pastor Bill Weaver will be officiating. Interment will be at the Edgewood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Altamont, Edgewood Cemetery or the donor’s choice.
Maxine was born on May 6, 1927 in Eldon, Missouri, the daughter of Daniel H. and Ida C. (Neville) Hayes. She married Edwin M. Hites on July 3, 1945 in Salem, Illinois. Maxine was a member of the Altamont Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing, taking part in the family farm, and she also loved gospel and country music, traveling, line dancing and being with her family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, Dan Hites (wife Myrna) of Edgewood and Doug Hites(wife Denise) of Edgewood; daughter, Connie Tipsword (husband Ken) of Edgewood; 5 grandchildren, Troy Hites (wife Andrea), Danielle Arnold (husband Randy) Jeremy Hites (wife Brittany), Holly Buenerkemper ( husband Kraig), Edwin Tipsword (Wife Kayla); 2 step-grandchildren, Michael Zuerrusen (wife Larissa),and Jeremy Zerrusen (wife Shannon); 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Ida Hayes; stepmother, Maude; husband, Edwin Hites brothers, Burnham “Slim” (Lola) Hayes, Stanley( Lois) Hayes , and Samuel Hayes; sister, Cleo (John) Allen, and Great-grandson, Andrew Spelbring.
