Clay County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Clay County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page:
On Thursday, January 4, 2024, at approximately 10:50 a.m., the Clay County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the area of Highway 50 and Crabapple Dr. in reference to individuals threatening utility workers with bats. The sheriff’s office had been at the same location the day before for a similar call.
When sheriff’s office personnel arrived on scene, the suspects fled into the residence and refused to come outside and speak to law enforcement. After meeting with the workers it was determined that sheriff’s office personnel would remain on scene and monitor the situation for further problems and allow the workers to complete the job in that area. While doing so one of the suspects came back out the residence causing a disturbance by yelling at the workers. When the deputy approached the suspect, the suspect ran back into the residence despite being ordered to stop. The deputy pursued the subject into the residence in an attempt to apprehend him. The deputy encountered two subjects in the garage, one was armed with a bat, and he ignored the order to drop the bat. The deputy then deployed his tazer striking the armed suspect, which resulted in gaining immediate compliance from the suspect. Both suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Clay County Jail.
As result of the incident Jeffery A. Warren (Jeffery), 27, of Flora, was arrested for the offense of Disorderly Conduct and was later given a Notice to Appear. Jeffery A. Warren (Jeff), 56, of Flora, was arrested for the offense of Disorderly Conduct and Aggravated Assault. Jeff was granted pretrial release by the court the following day pursuant to “The Safety Act”.
The charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
