Clark County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- From the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Facebook Page:
At 10:16am Sunday the Clark County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a juvenile in distress in the Wabash River southeast of West Union Illinois. All available emergency response agencies and personnel were immediately dispatched. Upon arrival it was determined the juvenile had been in the water playing with several family members and was swept away by the current and was seen going under the water. After an extensive search the 15 year old juvenile was located at approximately 2:05pm, deceased. The juvenile was from Merom, Indiana.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Illinois State Police Troop 9, Clark County IL E-911 Clark County Ambulance Service, West Union Fire Department, Crawford County Water Rescue, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, as well as many local individuals with personal boats. We believe there were additional first responder agencies elsewhere miles away assisting.
Additionally, there were many local residents and businesses providing whatever assistance was needed and requested from all first response agencies.
As much as we want to thank all the individuals, agencies and businesses that did anything they were asked and cooperated with the response we are focusing our thoughts on the grieving family and friends affected by today’s incident. As proud as we are of the response from so many we are so heartbroken of the outcome. We ask that all our area communities be with the grieving families and friends and also the communities that this incident with undoubtedly affect.
We thank everyone for your continued support when we request for areas to be closed or any type of assistance. This will be all the information we post at this time as the Clark County Coroner’s Office will continue following up with this incident.
