Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham County 377 Board held their meeting Wednesday and received a progress report from Community Support Systems (CSS).
The first order of business was approval of the April 23rd minutes, which were approved. The Board also re-elected Michael Tate as Chairman and Faith Hill as secretary for the 377 Board. The Board also discussed the timeline for requesting more funding from the Effingham County Board. Sandra Rich (formerly Gillet) was not present, so Secretary Hill said she will contact Sandra and look into sending a letter to the County Board. The request is to help CSS continue to help the Effingham area through their services.
The progress report from CSS showed that 21 individuals have participated in the program over the last year, helping those participants find jobs throughout Effingham County. CSS helped those individuals find jobs with the ISP, DCFS, the Unemployment Office, Effingham Equity, Homewood Grill, South Central FS, The Silk Purse, a multitude of different churches and rest areas, and places such as John Boos and Stevens Industries.
CSS also shared a success story of one of these individuals who utilized the services CSS provides to help her get a job right here in Effingham. CSS shared the story of Macey, who attended CSS with funding through the 377 Board. She was excited to attend CSS because several of her friends from school were there each day, she was able to get out of the house, and most importantly, able to earn her first paycheck. The staff at Community Support Systems recognized her bubbly and friendly personality along with her strong work ethic. After a while, CSS helped Macey gain valuable work skills and experience. With the support of a job coach paid for by 377 funding, Macey got a job at Homewood Grill. Macey celebrates her 1-year anniversary at Homewood Grill this month.
Community Support Systems is a 501 (c)3 non-profit corporation that provides services for people with an array of disabilities, including helping them get jobs and retain them.
The next meeting of the 377 Board will be January 22nd at 11am.
