Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- President Biden dropped out of the race last weekend, with the presumptive Democratic nominee for President now looking to be Vice President Kamala Harris. This change may make you wonder: Will this affect when my vote by mail ballot is delivered, or will it affect when ballots are printed for early voting?
Fayette County Clerk Jessica Barker answered some of these questions.
“Regarding your inquiry about the changes following President Joe Biden’s decision to drop our of the race, I can clarify the following points:
- Timing of Vote by Mail: The schedule for vote-by-mail will remain unaffected. Vote-by-mail and early voting are set to begin on September 26, and we are on track to meet that timeline.
- Ballot Printing: As per the State Board of Elections, there is no immediate impact on our ballot printing schedule. The national convention, where the official nominees are selected, is scheduled for August 19-22. The certification of electors is expected within two days following the convention. Our ballot certification deadline is August 23. Should there be any delay in receiving the certification, the State Board of Elections will issue an amended certification to include the candidates, ensuring that there is no significant impact on ballot preparation.
- Public Information: We want to assure the public that the electoral process will proceed smoothly despite the recent developments. We have ample time to prepare and distribute ballots, and all measures are being taken to ensure a fair and efficient election.”
