Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The hot temperatures will linger for another day, and they bring a chance for popup thunderstorms.
Scattered thunderstorms are anticipated around midday, mainly across central and southeast Illinois. The primary hazards with any well-organized storm will be 60 mph wind gusts, quarter-size hail, cloud-to-ground lightning, and torrential rainfall.
Our forecast calls for a high of 92 today, with heat index as high as 103 while other maps from the National Weather Service put our heat index slightly higher for today. But, after today we should see some relief from the heat and humidity. Friday we are looking at a high of 82 and then we’ll be in the upper 80s for the weekend with much less humidity expected over the area.
There is still a heat advisory for many southern Illinois counties until 7pm.
