Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham City Council met for their regular meeting Tuesday and approved a few different items, including a renewal of contract with the Effingham Regional Growth Alliance. The renewal includes a contribution of $110k. The Council also kept Commissioner Hank Stephens and Economic Development Director Todd Hull on as the City’s representatives on the Alliance.
The Council also approved relining of a sewer main to be done by Visu-Sewer. The project will be funded by grants for 80% of the cost.
The Council then discussed liquor licenses for Wandering Whistler Cafe and Effingham Hospitality Partners, LLC to be brought back for approval later. Also discussed was a structure at 1001 Ford Avenue, which is deemed unsafe. The move will allow the City to look at ways to fix the issue.
Tourism Director Jodi Thoele also approached the Council to discuss renewal of contract with DDI Media for billboard advertisements for the next year. The contract is for billboards in neighboring states.
City Commissioner Larry Micenheimer and City Assistant Police Chief Kurt Davis also reminded the Council and public that school is starting up again next week, and advised motorists to be mindful for children returning to school. Deputy City Administrator Pressley mentioned that crossing guard training is happening the next few days, including more visible equipment.
