Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- Manhattan Short Festival will be on Thursday, October 3 from 12:00 to 3:00 PM at the Suzette Brumleve
Memorial Effingham Public Library in the Workman Room.
The libraries in Mattoon, Charleston and Effingham join more than 100,000 film enthusiasts around the world for screenings. This is the first year the libraries combined to offer the films at multiple regional sites.
The festival, in its 26th year, selects 10 short film finalists from around the world. The entire program lasts about 2.5 hours including a short intermission. For the 10 finalists, the films are automatically Oscarqualified. Those attending a screening may vote for the best film and best actor.
Amanda McKay, Effingham Public Library director, said the Manhattan Short is another way for the library to offer patrons programs that go beyond the traditional library offering. “Libraries are great places to discover new things whether books or programs. This program fits our mission to bring unique opportunities to connect with others as well as cinema.”
The Manhattan Short program is free and open to anyone; no library card is required.
The Ten MANHATTAN SHORT Finalists hail from eight countries with films from United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Ukraine, Italy, France, Australia, Croatia, and Ireland as well as two films from the USA.
The Manhattan Short Final Ten are: The Talent (UK), I’m Not a Robot (The Netherlands), Mother (Ukraine), Dovecote (Italy), Pathological (USA), Alarms (France), Favourites (Australia), The Man Who Could Not Remain Silent (Croatia), Room Taken (Ireland), Jane Austen’s Period Drama (USA).
