Effingham, IL-(Effingham Radio)- The Effingham County Board held a special meeting to approve end of fiscal year bills, FY25 budget, and FY24 levy.
Votes on the levy and budget were unanimous. The tax levy is set to increase by 2.33%, with the county tax levy rate slightly down from last year. The Board also agreed to pay half of the expenditures for capitol improvement plans for the Health Department, while also paying for half of the Health Department employee premiums.
The Board also recognized Phil Hardiek as he retires from the Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Paul Kuhns released a statement on Hardiek’s retirement through the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page:
“Sergeant Phil Hardiek was recently honored by the Effingham County Board for his 22 years of dedicated service to Effingham County. Phil began his career at the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office as a Correctional Officer, before being promoted to Patrol Deputy, and then Patrol Sergeant. Phil was always a great asset to our Office and was instrumental in instructing TASER, CPR, and was a Crisis Intervention Team instructor. We are all happy for him, but He will be greatly missed.”
