Dwight E. Klepzig, 82, of Shumway, IL, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Heartland Senior Living in Neoga, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2024 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Shumway. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 27, 2024 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham.
Dwight was born on September 14, 1942 in Effingham, IL, the son of Henry and Dorothy (Rentfrow) Klepzig. He married Kathryn Chapman on October 20, 1963 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shumway, IL.
Dwight attended Beecher City High School. Growing up, he worked on his family farm and eventually followed in his father’s footsteps by continuing to run the dairy farm. Dwight devoted most of his life to serving the community and was very active within his church. He was the mayor of Shumway for 12 years serving on multiple boards within the community. He served as a volunteer firefighter for many years as well as served on the Shumway Fire Protection District Board of Trustees for 32 years. He devoted 12 years to the Beecher City Unit 20 School Board. Dwight also served on the Lutheran Care Center Board, Soil Conservation Board, St. John’s Lutheran Church building committee among multiple others.
Upon his retirement, he enjoyed collecting tractors, driving his golf cart around the farm, and spending time with his family and friends. Dwight was very proud of his family and would stop a stranger to brag about them. Dwight was hard working, selfless, an avid storyteller, lived life to the fullest, and was always willing to give a helping hand. Dwight made an impact on the community and everyone he met during his path of life.
Dwight is survived by his wife, Kathryn Klepzig; children, Darren (Francine) Klepzig, Debbie (Alan) Koester, and Danny (Ashley) Klepzig; grandchildren, Katelyn, Trey, Cara, Regan, Michael, and Cason; step-grandchildren, Andrew Wagoner and Blake Rahn; sisters-in-law, Dorothy White, Darlene Staley, Fern Olinger, and Ruth (Ron) Byrley; brother-in-law, Daniel Chapman; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Dorothy Klepzig; parents-in-law, Raleigh and Nondas Chapman; brothers, Henry in infancy and Don (Patricia) Klepzig; sisters-in-law, Luella (Raymond) Carson and Donna Chapman; and brothers-in-law, Victor (Imogene) Chapman, Dean Chapman, Marvin Olinger, and Robert White.
