Jasper County, IL-(Effingham Radio)- According to Jasper County State’s Attorney James S. Treccia, Paul “Scotty” Schoonover pleaded guilty to the murder of Jasper County resident Terry Eastep. Pursuant to an agreement presented to Jasper County Resident Judge Chad M. Miller in court on January 14, 2025, Paul “Scotty” Schoonover, age 31, was sentenced to 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for first degree murder. He will be required to serve the entire sentence in IDOC.
State’s Attorney Treccia commended the Illinois State Police and the Newton Police Department for their thorough investigation. He also commented that while he knows the Eastep family has suffered greatly, he hopes that the resolution to this case will bring the family some solace in the tragic loss of Terry Eastep.
