Lunch & Learn: NASA Nathan Jones

The Effingham County Chamber invites the community to an exclusive Lunch & Learn featuring Nathan Jones, a NASA Crew Medical Officer, on Tuesday, April 8, at the Effingham Event Center. This unique event, sponsored by Drs. Sehy & Jones, offers attendees a rare opportunity to gain insight into the intersection of space exploration and human health through the Mars Simulator Program.
Nathan Jones, a Springfield, Illinois native, has built an impressive career ensuring the well-being of astronauts in the demanding conditions of space. His experience provides valuable lessons in problem-solving, adaptability, and innovation—principles that apply to businesses and individuals alike. Jones has served as the medical officer and crewmate on NASA Johnson Space Center’s first long duration analog mission called CHAPEA 1.
As a board-certified emergency medicine physician, Jones specializes in prehospital and austere medicine, equipping him with the expertise to navigate extreme and unpredictable environments, whether in space or on Earth. He currently serves as an emergency medicine physician, emergency medical director, and tactical medical physician at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Additionally, he is an associate professor of emergency medicine at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, where he helps train the next generation of medical professionals.
“The Chamber is committed to providing engaging and thought-provoking opportunities for our members and the greater Effingham County community,” said Katie Koester, President & CEO of the Effingham County Chamber. “This Lunch & Learn with Nathan is a perfect example of how we can connect local professionals with extraordinary learning experiences.”
